Aylsham Town 1, Scole 1

This was a very good game, blessed once again by lovely winter
sunshine after a week of poor weather.  We started with only six
players for the second time in three games, and once again played very
well.

We dominated the first half: Scole had one chance early on, but
thereafter Emily and Sarah defended magnificently, and Lisa was very
bored in goal.  Naomi and Lizzie were troubling Scole constantly, and
Grace played very well in her familiar deeper role.  She was prepared
to shoot from distance, and scored the goal from one of these efforts.

In the second half, playing with only six, the girls began to tire.
It became harder and harder for us to turn attack into defence, and on
one occasion Scole finally got past the defenders and scored an
equaliser.  We still caused them many problems, including another long-
range shot from Grace that clipped the bar.

This was a moral victory, built on excellent passing and determined
defending.  The girls played better 'as a team' than ever before, and
chosing a 'man of the match' was a nightmare: in the end it went to
Naomi for consistently high performance over the last three games.
Well done Naomi, and well done to the other five excellent players.

Red Rose 0, Aylsham Town 2.

The first win of the season for the U11/U12 squad came on Saturday in
only the second U11 league fixture, a very satisfying result.  We had a
full squad, including Bunnie making her debut.

We dominated the match from the beginning, looking very solid in
defence with Sarah and Emily, and the rest of the team moving
well around Grace in midfield.  Naomi scored the first goal, pouncing
on a weak goal kick and scoring before the keeper could recover.  She
then scored the second from a good cross with an excellent header, low
to the right hand corner.

We were then able to rotate the squad, playing the younger girls, and
giving Vicky the chance to play (very effectively) in midfield.  We
didn't score again, but continued to dominate, and never really looked
like conceding.

This win was overdue but thoroughly deserved, a really professional
performance from the whole squad.  So many of the girls played
faultlessly, that I had to ask the referee to help me with 'man of the
match', which went to Grace for a solid holding midfield performance;
but Naomi's headed goal will last long in the memory, as will a tackle
by Emily on the right winger that was very firm but equally fair!

Well done girls.

Aylsham Town 0, North Walsham 1

The U11 team kicked of their official season against their local
rivals, North Walsham.  Games between us have been even affairs,
usually settled by the odd goal - this one was no different.  We played
very well at times, and were never overrun.  We probably edged the
possession and territorial advantage, but North Walsham had the best
chances.
Their goal came in the first half from a piece of luck - a shot well
parried by Vicky falling to a North Walsham player in the box.

North Walsham have won their first three fixtures easily, but we
certainly gave them a game today, and it might easily have gone our
way.  Emily was excellent again, Grace played well, particularly as a
defensive midfielder.  Lisa, Naomi and Lizzy gave them plenty to think
about up front, but the man-of-the-match went to Mary in her first
match of the season - intelligent positioning and good use of the ball
while playing up front.  Well done Mary, we'll get you some goals soon!
